Richmond, Texas Roofing & Property Guidance

Know your roof before you sign anything. The Roof Shepherd brings independent inspection, storm damage documentation, and property guidance to Richmond homeowners.

Updated June 30, 2026

In Richmond, roofing permit and inspection rules are set by the city and can vary from one community to the next. Texas has no statewide roofing license, so confirm requirements with Richmond’s building department before work begins. The Roof Shepherd documents your roof’s condition; permitting and installation stay with the licensed contractor you choose.

What homeowners in Richmond should know

Wind & Hurricane Country

Richmond’s roofing risk is wind, hurricane, and derecho more than hail. Independent documentation after any major wind event protects your position before any contractor conversation. Richmond is the Fort Bend County seat on the Brazos River southwest of Houston, where Gulf hurricanes, river flooding, and wind shape roof exposure.

Wind & Storm Exposure

The strongest verified gust at Sugarland in NOAA’s record measured 77 mph on March 15, 2024. 47 thunderstorm wind reports sit within 10 miles of Richmond since 1996.

HOA & Material Considerations

Many Fort Bend County neighborhoods carry HOA architectural review requirements on shingle color and material. In hurricane country, wind-rated installation matters as much as the product. Confirm HOA rules before selecting materials.

Common Roofing Issues

Wind exposure produces lifted and creased shingles, displaced flashing, exposed decking, and post-storm water intrusion, conditions a documented inspection captures before the next storm makes them worse.

Richmond Snapshot

Weather history & local facts

Weather & Storm History

Richmond’s verified NOAA record since 2018 is quieter than the corridor average: 1 inch hail at Richmond on April 5, 2023 leads the log, with 10 hail reports overall, 11 thunderstorm wind events and 0 tornado reports inside the 10 mile window. Peak months: April and March.

Worth Knowing

Most storm damage to a roof isn’t visible from the ground. A documented inspection captures bruising, lifted shingles, and flashing issues before they turn into leaks.

I recently got a roof installed and my trim painted with this company. The process was simple — David helped me pick out colors for the roof, and I had no idea there were so many to choose from. I appreciate David and his crew for taking care of my home and respecting my property by making sure everything was masked and cleaned up by the end of the process. These guys were on time, efficient, took care of everything I asked for, kept me updated throughout, and took care of the small details I was picky about. I would highly recommend!

The Roof Shepherd LLC, came to my rescued in time when I was struggling to find help with my damaged roof. My home insurance at the time refused to provide help or pay for the damage to my roof at the time unless I pay the substantial amount they requested up front of ($28,500). I felt so lost, confused and helpless worrying on how to pay this and keep my home safe and prevent the roof from worse leaks due to bad weather and heavy rain our area was receiving at the time. Three months in praying asking God for help. On May 10th 2026, Saturday morning my doorbell rang. When I open the door I was met with a brighter smile of a man whom introduced himself as David Rodriguez and he wanted to speak with me about my roof. And that's when this beautiful blessed "Roof Shepherd" enter my heart ❤️, and my home. I praise God for His blessings and prayers answered. David the "Roof Shepherd" stuck with me and promise me that he will help me with my problems. He pray with, walked me through every difficult steps I needed to go through. From May 10th through November 7th we finally received the financial help I needed. I had also asked David to help me search for a new home insurance and yes, he came through that for me as well. David and his crew did a fantastic job inspecting our home. When they did the inspection in the attic they found subpar work done by the home builder which, if it had not been discovered, would have cost us well over $10K to correct. Roof joists were two feet short and not attached to anything — just left hanging, with no joist brackets. In time our roof would have collapsed. Thank you, Roof Shepherd.

Owner Response

Andrew, thank you for trusting us with your home in Round Rock. I’m grateful we were able to take the time to look beyond the surface of the roof and evaluate the attic, ventilation, and structural conditions affecting the roof system. A roof can look prematurely aged for reasons that aren’t always visible from the outside. In this case, the attic inspection and documentation helped identify serious underlying concerns before they became a much larger and more expensive problem. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. This is exactly why The Roof Shepherd focuses on careful inspection, clear documentation, and helping homeowners understand what is really going on with their roof before making major decisions. Thank you again for the opportunity to help.
