Texture matching
Matching existing texture is the part that separates a repair from a patch. Knockdown, orange peel, splatter, hand-troweled and smooth level 5 are all in scope, and we can also skim coat a textured wall flat if that is the look you want. Popcorn ceiling removal is the same work on a ceiling: the texture comes off, the surface is skimmed flat, and it is finished either smooth or in whatever texture the rest of the house already wears. One thing decides the order of operations, and it is the age of the ceiling rather than the room: older acoustic ceilings can contain material that has to be tested before anything is scraped, so that question gets answered first and in writing. We do not guess at it.

The first place a leak shows
Drywall is one of the first interior materials to register a roof problem. A slow leak darkens and rings a ceiling, swells and softens the panel, and loosens the tape along seams as the paper face takes on water. Because the cavity behind the wall stays damp long after the surface looks dry, moisture trapped there can lead to mold if the panel is closed back up too soon.
Why repair waits for a dry roof
That is why repair waits until the roof above is dry and documented. Replacing a softened section, re taping seams, and matching the existing texture and paint produces a wall that reads as original, but only once the water has stopped. Sequencing the drywall after the roof, rather than alongside it, is what keeps the repair from being redone.

What is the right way to repair interior drywall after a roof leak?
Confirm the leak source is resolved before touching the drywall. Then assess the panel: soft, crumbly, or delaminated paper means the panel must be replaced, not repaired. Patch compounds applied over structurally compromised drywall will not hold long-term. Once the correct panels are replaced, prime before painting, bare drywall absorbs paint unevenly and the repaired area will show through a single coat.
How do you tell a cosmetic drywall crack from a structural one?
Hairline cracks above doors and windows are usually cosmetic, from normal settling and Round Rock area soil movement. Cracks that are wide, stair-stepped, or paired with sticking doors can point to something structural, which we flag for a closer look rather than patching over. We document either way so the homeowner sees the difference.
Will a drywall patch be visible after it is painted?
Done correctly, no. The seam is taped, mudded in layers, sanded flush, textured to match, primed, and painted so it reads as one continuous surface. A patch that still shows usually skipped the texture-match or the primer step.
Does drywall damaged by a roof leak need to be replaced or just repaired?
It depends on how much water it absorbed. Drywall that stayed wet, sagged, or grew mold needs to be cut out and replaced, because painting over compromised board only hides the problem. Drywall that only surface-stained can often be sealed and refinished. We document the moisture condition so the call is based on evidence.
How soon after a leak should drywall be addressed?
Sooner is better. The longer wet drywall sits, the higher the risk of mold and the more board has to be removed later. Documenting the affected area early gives the homeowner a clear record and a smaller, less costly repair window.
