How Extended Coverage Works

Same standard. Different zone.

Documentation before decisions

The Roof Shepherd’s education-first, documentation-before-decisions approach is the same regardless of which Texas zone you’re in. In Central Texas, The Roof Shepherd operates directly out of Round Rock. In North Texas and Houston & Gulf Coast, The Roof Shepherd manages every project with subcontractor crews under our direction, and the documentation standard, the homeowner education posture, and the insurance-safe approach do not change.

Physical roofing installation and repair in all three corridors is handled by vetted, credential-checked, and insured roofing contractors. The Roof Shepherd’s role is observation, documentation, guidance, and education, the decision and the contract remain the homeowner’s.

Not One Market

Why Texas is three roofing markets, not one

Central Texas is a hail and ultraviolet market

A roof in Round Rock, a roof outside Fort Worth and a roof in Katy are exposed to genuinely different weather, and the failures they develop are not the same. Treating the state as one service area is how homeowners end up with advice that does not fit the roof they own.

Within ten miles of Round Rock, the NOAA Storm Events archive records 219 hail events since 2000, 71 of them at sizes generally associated with roof damage, with a largest recorded stone of 4.0 inches and 2023 the busiest year on record. Source: NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database, 10 mile radius, 2000-01-01 to 2026-12-31. Between storms, sun does the slower work: sealant dries and cracks years before the shingles above it are worn out. Most of what a maintenance visit reseals here failed to UV, not to weather.

North Texas takes larger hail more often. The corridor through Tarrant and Johnson counties sits in one of the most active hail regions in the country. Impact-resistant shingles carry a stronger argument there than almost anywhere else, and cosmetic denting on metal is a realistic outcome rather than an edge case.

The Gulf Coast is a wind and water market. Wind uplift at the edges and prolonged wetting drive failure more than impact does. Edge detail, fastener pattern and underlayment choice carry weight that a Hill Country roof never tests.

The inspection standard does not change between them. What changes is what we expect to find, and what we tell you to watch for once we leave.

Distance And Honesty

How we decide what we cover

Central Texas is home

Every city page on this site says the same thing about our standard, because the standard genuinely does not change. What changes is response time, and we would rather be plain about that than imply a two hour drive is the same as a ten minute one.

Round Rock is base. Georgetown, Hutto, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Leander, Liberty Hill, Taylor, Jarrell and Austin are inside routine daily range.

North Texas and the Gulf Coast are scheduled corridors. We work them deliberately rather than opportunistically, which means a visit is planned rather than immediate. If you need somebody on a roof this afternoon and you are three hours away, the honest answer is that a local company will serve you better, and we will say so.

Inspections are priced per roof and per corridor, since a visit three hours out consumes most of a working day. Ask Shepherd AI for the figure that applies to your address; it can size the work and tell you honestly when a number needs someone on site.

Storm Records

Documented storm history by city

Every city page carries the NOAA record for that location: how many hail events have been logged within ten miles, how many reached damaging size, the largest stone measured, and the busiest year. It is the public record, cited with its window and source, not our estimate.

Common Questions

Common questions about service area coverage

Does The Roof Shepherd serve my city?

The Roof Shepherd serves 207 cities across three Texas zones. Central Texas (71 cities) runs from Waco south through Austin to San Antonio, this is the primary territory based in Round Rock. North Texas DFW (85 cities) and Houston & Gulf Coast (51 cities) are covered through a vetted extended zone. Select your zone above to find your city.

What is the difference between the Central Texas and extended zones?

Central Texas is the home territory, full service scope including roofing, storm documentation, gutters, painting, drywall, and surface coatings. DFW and Houston & Gulf Coast carry full roofing capability (repair, replacement, and installation), managed by The Roof Shepherd with subcontractor crews under our direction, plus storm damage documentation and gutter condition review. Full painting & repair services are Central Texas only.

How do I get started if I’m outside Central Texas?

Use the Get Help form and select your city. For extended zone cities, The Roof Shepherd confirms coverage for your city and coordinates your documentation visit. Response and scheduling are handled the same way regardless of zone.
