Spring, Texas Roofing & Property Protection

Know your roof before you sign anything. The Roof Shepherd brings documentation-first inspection, storm damage documentation, and property guidance to Spring homeowners.

Updated July 26, 2026

In Spring, roofing permit and inspection rules are set by the city and can vary from one community to the next. Texas has no statewide roofing license, so confirm requirements with Spring’s building department before work begins. The Roof Shepherd documents your roof’s condition; permitting and installation stay with the contractor you choose.

What homeowners in Spring should know

Wind & Hurricane Country

Spring’s roofing risk is wind, hurricane, and derecho more than hail. Documentation after any major wind event protects your position before any contractor conversation. Spring is a fast-growing Harris County community north of Houston, with suburban subdivisions exposed to hurricanes, tropical rain, and hail.

Wind & Storm Exposure

The strongest verified gust in Spring in NOAA’s record measured 79 mph on May 2, 2000. 81 thunderstorm wind reports sit within 10 miles of Spring since 1996.

HOA & Material Considerations

Many Harris County neighborhoods carry HOA architectural review requirements on shingle color and material. In hurricane country, wind-rated installation matters as much as the product. Confirm HOA rules before selecting materials.

Common Roofing Issues

Wind exposure produces lifted and creased shingles, displaced flashing, exposed decking, and post-storm water intrusion, conditions a documented inspection captures before the next storm makes them worse.

Spring Snapshot

Weather history & local facts

Weather & Storm History

Spring’s verified NOAA record since 2018 includes 1 inch hail at Spring Skyline Airport on April 24, 2020, and 0.88 inch hail at Oak Ridge North on April 15, 2021. 29 thunderstorm wind events and 5 tornado reports sit inside the same 10 mile window. Peak hail months here: April and June. Across Harris County as a whole, NOAA logged 143 hail events from 2016 through 2025, with hail to 2.5 inches, plus 176 damaging thunderstorm wind events and 33 tornado reports.

Worth Knowing

Most storm damage to a roof isn’t visible from the ground. A documented inspection captures bruising, lifted shingles, and flashing issues before they turn into leaks.

Local Note

Spring sits in Harris County, within the Houston and Gulf Coast region. Roofing guidance and storm documentation are available region-wide; installation is coordinated through our credentialed partner.

Storm facts corroborated across NOAA/NWS records and contemporaneous local news reporting.

Wind & Hurricane Frequency

NOAA logs 98 verified thunderstorm wind reports within 10 miles of Spring since 1996; the busiest year was 2023 with 11 reports. Hurricane season runs June through November on this coast.

After a major hurricane or derecho, out-of-state contractors arrive quickly. Documentation before any contractor conversation gives you a written record of visible conditions, and protects your position whether you file a claim or not. The Roof Shepherd documents first. Decisions come after.

What To Document

Lifted or creased shingles, displaced flashing, exposed decking, debris impact, and post-storm water intrusion.

Neighborhood Exposure

Neighborhoods across Spring (Harris County) vary by lot elevation, tree cover, and roof age, so block-level documentation beats area-wide estimates. After any significant storm, a documented record of visible conditions protects your position.

When we needed our roof changed, David of The Roof Shepherd in Austin, Texas was recommended to us. He took care in making our home look great. David is easy going and very friendly. The whole process of getting the roof done was made easy, thanks to him: from giving us time to choose what we really wanted, to coordinating the insurance process and recommending a company for rain gutters — which we are very pleased with. He even saw to it that our porch posts were repaired, sparing us a search. Everything was beautifully done and in a timely manner. Love the look of our new roof!

Owner Response

Claudette, thank you so much for taking the time to write this. It truly means a lot. It was a privilege to help with your roof replacement in Austin, Texas, and I’m glad the process felt easy and well-coordinated. Choosing a new roof is a big decision, so I’m glad you had the time and space to choose what you really wanted. I’m also glad we were able to help with the gutter recommendation and make sure the porch post repairs were addressed instead of leaving you to track that down on your own. Your home looks great, and I’m grateful you trusted me to help guide the project from start to finish.

I am a realtor and my clients needed a roof inspection and estimate quickly. The next day, David came, inspected, and provided an estimate for a replacement, after explaining to the owners the issues and the pros and cons of different roofing materials. David was then able to get the roof replaced in less than a week! We are so thankful for David and his team — they were an absolute pleasure to work with!

If you're looking for a roof replacement, look no further than the Roof Shepherd himself, David. A few months ago, an exterminator discovered a hole in our roof while checking for squirrels. David and his crew went out of their way and placed a solid, temporary patch over the hole. David and his crew did this at 11:30 at night, hours before severe weather hit the area. David did this right at the beginning of the process which most roofers would never bother to do. David and the crew did an excellent job, along with the full replacement of our gutters!!! The roof looks great and we are extremely happy with the result. David stayed in constant contact throughout the process and explained how to smoothly get things done with the insurance company, which we all know can be a pain. David's knowledge in roofing is second to none, so if you are close to replacement, or have questions about the process, trust me, call the Roof Shepherd!!!

Owner Response

Lonnie, thank you for the incredible review and for trusting The Roof Shepherd team with your home in Cedar Park. That late-night emergency response was definitely one of those real roofing moments, but the goal was simple: protect the home before the weather moved in and keep a roof opening from turning into interior damage. I'm grateful we were able to help at the very beginning of the process, then follow it through with the full re-roof and gutter replacement. I also appreciate you mentioning the communication side of the job. Roofing and insurance-related work can be stressful, so my goal is always to keep homeowners informed, prepared, and protected from start to finish. Thank you again for the trust, the kind words, and the opportunity to take care of your home.
