What homeowners in Balch Springs should know
Hail Alley
Balch Springs sits in North Texas, which records the most hailstorms in Texas in a typical year, the state logged 529 hail events in 2024. Independent documentation after a storm protects your position before any contractor conversation. Balch Springs is an established Dallas County city east of Dallas, with a mature housing stock in the heart of North Texas hail country.
Hail & Storm Exposure
NOAA’s 30 year record holds 84 verified hail reports within 10 miles of Balch Springs since 1996, inside the North Texas hail alley. The busiest single year in that record was 2023, with 12 reports inside the ring.
HOA & Material Considerations
Many Dallas County neighborhoods carry HOA architectural review requirements on shingle color and material. Given the hail exposure, impact-resistant (UL 2218 Class 3 to 4) shingles are worth discussing. Confirm HOA rules before selecting materials.
Common Roofing Issues
Repeated large-hail exposure means bruised shingles, granule loss, and soft-metal damage to vents and flashing, conditions a documented inspection captures before the next storm makes them worse.

What Texas homeowners say
If you're looking for a roof replacement, look no further than the Roof Shepherd himself, David. A few months ago, an exterminator discovered a hole in our roof while checking for squirrels. David and his crew went out of their way and placed a solid, temporary patch over the hole. David and his crew did this at 11:30 at night, hours before severe weather hit the area. David did this right at the beginning of the process which most roofers would never bother to do. David and the crew did an excellent job, along with the full replacement of our gutters!!! The roof looks great and we are extremely happy with the result. David stayed in constant contact throughout the process and explained how to smoothly get things done with the insurance company, which we all know can be a pain. David's knowledge in roofing is second to none, so if you are close to replacement, or have questions about the process, trust me, call the Roof Shepherd!!!
Owner Response
Lonnie, thank you for the incredible review and for trusting The Roof Shepherd team with your home in Cedar Park. That late-night emergency response was definitely one of those real roofing moments, but the goal was simple: protect the home before the weather moved in and keep a roof opening from turning into interior damage. I'm grateful we were able to help at the very beginning of the process, then follow it through with the full re-roof and gutter replacement. I also appreciate you mentioning the communication side of the job. Roofing and insurance-related work can be stressful, so my goal is always to keep homeowners informed, prepared, and protected from start to finish. Thank you again for the trust, the kind words, and the opportunity to take care of your home.
After my family's experience with David and the rest of The Roof Shepherd crew, I don't see a reason to consider another roofing company. They explained to us and showed us, in clear and transparent detail, why we needed a new roof instead of a repair. They walked us through all of our options for materials and the differences in each type, all while easily fielding our questions. We never felt any pressure. Once we agreed on the best option for our family, the rest of the process went super smooth. They arrived to remove the old material and install the new exactly when they said they would. Since David had explained what would happen in our initial meeting, I knew what to expect, and what he said is exactly what happened. No surprises. They were fast, efficient, and the work was high quality. David checked in with us a couple of times to inform us about the progress and what they were doing, which we really appreciated. When they were finished, we went through photos and videos of what they uncovered during the removal of the old material, the installation process, and the finished product so we could see exactly what had happened. The roof looked great! We even had some good ole Texas thunderstorms roll through in the days after the install for a stress test, and everything held up perfectly. All in all, The Roof Shepherd made this such a stress-free and easy experience. We are so happy we made the right choice to work with them. If you need repairs or a new roof, these are the guys.

Bryant, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. It means a lot. This Austin roof installation came together quickly, but the goal was still the same: explain the condition of the roof clearly, walk through the repair-versus-replacement decision, review the material options, and make sure your family knew what to expect before the work started. I'm especially glad the communication, timing, cleanup, and photo/video documentation helped make the process feel smooth and low-stress. A roof replacement is a major decision, and homeowners deserve to see what was found, what was installed, and why it mattered. We're grateful your family trusted The Roof Shepherd with your home. And those Texas thunderstorms right after the install were definitely a real-world stress test. I'm glad everything performed the way it should.
When we needed our roof changed, David of The Roof Shepherd in Austin, Texas was recommended to us. He took care in making our home look great. David is easy going and very friendly. The whole process of getting the roof done was made easy, thanks to him: from giving us time to choose what we really wanted, to coordinating the insurance process and recommending a company for rain gutters — which we are very pleased with. He even saw to it that our porch posts were repaired, sparing us a search. Everything was beautifully done and in a timely manner. Love the look of our new roof!

It was a privilege to help with your roof replacement in Austin, Texas, and I’m glad the process felt easy and well-coordinated. Choosing a new roof is a big decision, so I’m glad you had the time and space to choose what you really wanted. I’m also glad we were able to help with the gutter recommendation and make sure the porch post repairs were addressed instead of leaving you to track that down on your own.
