What this video shows

What this shows: Synthetic underlayment going down over the decking on a Copperas Cove roof, the layer no one sees once shingles are on. It is here to show a part of the roof homeowners pay for but never see.

Underlayment is the layer nobody sees and nobody asks about, and it is the layer that decides what happens when the shingles above it are compromised. Felt has been the default for a century and it does the job until it does not: it absorbs water, it tears at fasteners under wind uplift, and it degrades from heat in an attic that is not ventilated well. Synthetic underlayment resists tearing and does not absorb, which is why it holds up in the window between tear off and finish and in every storm after that. The difference costs very little at install and it is not accessible again without taking the roof off.
