On a flat or low slope commercial roof the membrane is rarely what fails. The seams are. TPO is joined by heat welding the sheets together, and a weld that is a few degrees too cool looks identical to a good one from six feet away while holding at a fraction of the strength. The way to tell them apart is mechanical, not visual: a blunt probe run along the edge of every seam will catch and open a cold weld and slide straight past a sound one. Detail work at the curbs, drains and wall terminations is where the hours go, because those are the places the membrane has to stop being a flat sheet and start being a corner.
