During this residential roof inspection in Austin, Texas, I found a roof configuration commonly called a dead valley. This happens where roof planes come together in a way that can concentrate water into a confined area, making drainage, flashing and waterproofing especially important. Sometimes the problem isn’t the shingle. It’s where the water is being asked to go. A proper roof inspection should evaluate more than the visible condition of the shingles.
